Careers at SCOTS English
Who We Are
Scots English College (SCOTS) offers a wide range of high-quality English language courses to adult international students from all over the world. Students can take their English language to a whole new level at SCOTS, whether to pursue tertiary studies with one of our partners next door such as the Australian National Institute of Management and Commerce, to improve their fluency for travel or socialisation or to prepare for their IELTS, PTE or Cambridge Exams; SCOTS has got it all.
Located a stone's throw away from Redfern Station, SCOTS is right in the centre of the South Eveleigh precinct - Sydney's innovation and technology hub. Step out of your classroom in your tea break for some fresh air in the beautiful park next door, throw a 'barbie' with your students after class or gather some colleagues around and meet at the tennis court or scooter park or simply grab a bite at one of the many fancy cafes and restaurants in the area. You'll find working at SCOTS quite enjoyable.
What We Stand For
As our slogan says, we strive to go beyond teaching English to our students, we firmly believe that the role we play in the life of an international student at the beginning of their Australian journey is transformational; we are often the very first point of contact for the students and thus often the lenses through which they view their entire experience. That is a conviction shared by everyone at SCOTS from management and HR to academic, marketing and Students Services.
A member of English Australia and a Two-Time Winner of the Government Innovation Fund 2021
SCOTS is a proud member of English Australia, the voice of the English language teaching sector in Australia. SCOTS joined English Australia in 2021 amidst the most challenging time the ELICOS sector has ever witnessed and when SCOTS won twice the Innovation Grant 2021 and received funding for its cutting-edge online platform that played an essential role in preserving the continuity of learning online during lockdowns and border closures. Since its very foundation in 2016, SCOTS has constantly demonstrated best practice in English language teaching online and offline, students’ assessment, students services and teachers’ recruitment and training. We are enormously proud and grateful to English Australia for allowing us, throughout our association with other members, to contribute to the recovery and growth of the ELICOS sector in this post-COVID chapter.
Great Place To Jumpstart Your Teaching Career
SCOTS believes teaching English to ESL or EFL learners is tremendously rewarding and consequential for the students. Teachers could either make the students love or hate English. Good teachers make English learning so enjoyable and gratifying that students never want to leave the school, and bad teachers make it so boring and painful that students want to change schools or lose interest in learning altogether; the stakes are high, therefore, SCOTS sees a great value in assisting new teachers in kicking off their careers in ELICOS by offering partial or full funding of their CERT IV in TESOL qualification with casual or fixed-term employment as teachers where they could teach under the supervision and mentorship of more experienced teachers until they have successfully completed their studies including their practical and class observations.
- Partial funding — casual employment (typically 6 months): SCOTS pays 50% of the tuition fees of your CERT IV in TESOL course delivered by one of our partners. Payments are made directly to the provider and installed throughout the study period of the course . Should you decide to resign before completing the CERT IV in TESOL, SCOTS will stop making payments on your behalf, and if you would like to continue the course, you will need to pay the remainder of the tuition fees yourself.
- Full funding — fixed-term employment (12 months): SCOTS pays 100% of the tuition fees of your CERT IV in TESOL course delivered by one of our partners. Payments are made directly to the provider and installed throughout the study period of the course (typically 12 months). Should you decide to resign before completing the CERT IV in TESOL, SCOTS will stop making payments on your behalf, and if you would like to continue the course, you will need to pay the remainder of the tuition fees yourself. You will also have to repay all the tuition fees paid by SCOTS on your behalf to SCOTS.
